HyWoNa
Development of a user-friendly digital navigator to support SMEs in the implementation of hybrid working models

The aim of the 'HyWoNa' research project is to develop a user-friendly digital navigator that supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the implementation of hybrid working models. Specific requirements in the areas of people, technology and organization are taken into account in order to enable tailor-made solutions for different business contexts. The focus is particularly on indirect areas of manufacturing companies and the IT sector, as hybrid working models are particularly relevant here.
Initial Situation
The increasing spread of hybrid working models is changing the way companies organize their work. Especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, mobile and hybrid forms of work were introduced at short notice to maintain operational processes. Studies show that over 55 percent of SMEs have newly implemented or expanded mobile working. Nevertheless, there is still a great need for action, especially in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), when it comes to the sustainable organization of hybrid work.
Many SMEs are faced with the challenge of integrating hybrid working models not only technically, but also organizationally and culturally. The reduction in physical presence is changing familiar work processes, communication channels and team dynamics. At the same time, it opens up opportunities: flexibility in terms of time and location, the elimination of commuting times and the use of digital collaboration tools enable more efficient working. Companies now need to find out how they can make targeted use of this potential while at the same time overcoming challenges such as team cohesion, managing hybrid teams and digital infrastructure.
Hybrid work offers great opportunities, particularly for indirect areas in manufacturing companies and IT SMEs, but requires adapted concepts that go beyond standardized digitalization measures.
Solution Approach
In the 'HyWoNa' project, a digital navigator of the same name is being developed to support SMEs step by step in the introduction of hybrid working models. Through a combination of company surveys, scientific analyses and best practices, practical solutions are being developed that take equal account of people, technology and organization.
The hybrid work navigator HyWoNa helps companies to find the optimal mix of digital collaboration and physical workplace design. It offers sound recommendations for the selection of suitable tools, hybrid teamwork and the sustainable implementation of new ways of working. With practical guidelines and training materials, HyWoNa enables a future-proof and efficient implementation of hybrid work in SMEs.
Expected Result
The Hybrid Work Navigator HyWoNa will enable SMEs across all sectors to successfully design hybrid working models. In addition to structural aspects such as digital infrastructure and workplace design, cultural and organizational factors such as leadership, collaboration and change management are also taken into account. The Hybrid Work Navigator will offer companies practical guidance with individual recommendations for action, a structured approach and a toolbox for selecting suitable management tools.
Benefits for the Target Group
The Hybrid Work Navigator HyWoNa will support SMEs in implementing hybrid working models in a targeted and sustainable manner. Companies will benefit from increased employer attractiveness, more efficient work processes and better opportunities to recruit skilled workers. The combination of digital and physical workplace design allows productivity potential to be exploited, while practical recommendations for action and change management strategies will facilitate smooth implementation. The Hybrid Work Navigator will enable the precise adaptation of hybrid working methods to the individual requirements of SMEs and thus contribute to long-term competitiveness.
