CASTLE
Cybersecurity Appliance to enhance the Security of Living Environments
The joint research project 'CASTLE – Cybersecurity Appliance to enhance the Security of Living Environments' aims to improve the confidentiality, availability and integrity of IoT home networks and building automation in a user-friendly way.
Initial Situation
The large number of sensors and devices used in households and buildings as part of smart home systems often collect extensive data about users' habits, preferences and behaviour. Physical changes or incorrect configuration by the end customer can significantly weaken network security and thus enable digital data to be read, manipulated or falsified.
Solution Approach
As part of 'CASTLE', the requirements in terms of threat, target group and technology are being analysed. Based on this, it will be investigated how non-domain-specific and newly developed security mechanisms can create a user-friendly guarantee of home network security. Based on these findings, technical solutions will be developed to utilise the potential of these security mechanisms in practice.
Expected Result
A platform for end users enables monitoring and security analyses of private networks as well as options for taking countermeasures. The security of private home networks can be increased through a visualisation in the form of a user dashboard.
Benefits for the Target Group
'CASTLE' enables end users to improve smart home network security. By means of easy-to-understand operation supported by recommendations for action and simple integration of the solutions, even less technically savvy users can be empowered.
