Das FIR an der RWTH Aachen und das Center Integrated Business Applications hatten zu einem Tag rund um das gesamte Themenfeld integrierter Business-Applications eingeladen. Expert:innen aus Wirtschaft und Industrie beleuchteten in Fachvorträgen und anhand von Best Practices die Bedeutung von ERP, MES, APS & Co. als Schlüssel für den zukünftigen Unternehmenserfolg. Workshops, Führungen und eine Fachausstellung komplettierten das Programm, das wichtige Impulse zur Auswahl, Entscheidung, Implementierung von Geschäftsanwendungen für die Gäste bereithielt. Den Praxistag am 20. Juni 2023 nutzten viele Teilnehmende, um im Vorfeld des CBA Aachen 2023 tiefer in spezifische, anwendungsbezogene Lösungen und Herangehensweisen für betriebliche Anwendungssysteme einzutauchen. In ihrer Begrüßung gaben Max-Ferdinand Stroh und Tobias Schröer, beide Bereichsleiter am FIR e. V. an der RWTH Aachen, einen Überblick zu den Themen des Tages: Digitalisierung, Technologietrends, Softwareeinführung und -projekte. Schröer und Stroh betonten den großen Stellenwert der Nachhaltigkeit, die in der Transformation eine herausragende Rolle spiele: „Der Prozess der Digitalisierung ist noch lange nicht abgeschlossen, er wird uns noch Jahrzehnte beschäftigen,“ so Schröer. Das bestätigte auch Katharina Berwing, Leiterin Center Integrated Business Applications, in ihrem Impulsvortrag „Das Ärgernis Softwareprojekt“. Integrierte Business-Applications könnten viele gesellschaftlich relevante Themen adressieren, doch immer noch beschäftigten sich Unternehmen eher mit der Einführung von Softwareprojekten, was laut Berwing die Konzentration auf die drängenden Herausforderungen unserer Zeit hemmt. Rund 20 Prozent aller Einführungsprojekte scheiterten vor dem Go-live, aber auch in abgeschlossenen Projekten würden nur 25 Projekt der gesteckten Ziele erreicht, das Budget würde um 42 Prozent und die eingeplante Zeit um 32 Prozent überschritten. In diesem Spannungsfeld zwischen Anbietern und Anwendern nimmt das Center seit vielen Jahren eine vermittelnde und vor allem neutrale Rolle ein, betont Berwing. Die so gewonnene Erfahrung zeige, dass für den Erfolg von Projekten eine transparente Kommunikation und Ehrlichkeit im Projekt entscheidende Erfolgs- faktoren seien. Bereits in Berwings Vortrag kam die große Bedeutung des Change-Managements für den Erfolg von Softwareprojekten zum Ausdruck. Auch im Themenblock „Transformation: Den Weg zum digitalisierten Unternehmen ebnen“ wurde dieser Punkt von allen Referierenden besonders herausgestellt. Für den Projekterfolg sei es essenziell, eine Innovationskultur im Unternehmen zu etablieren. In their welcoming address, Max-Ferdinand Stroh and Tobias Schröer, both division heads at FIR e. V. at RWTH Aachen University, provided an overview of the day's topics: digitization, technology trends, software implementation and projects. Schröer and Stroh emphasized the great importance of sustainability, which plays a prominent role in the transformation: “The process of digitization is far from complete; it will occupy us for decades to come,” Schröer said. This was also confirmed by Katharina Berwing, Head of Center Integrated Business Applications, in her keynote speech “The software project nuisance”. Integrated business applications could address many socially relevant issues, but companies are still more concerned with the introduction of software projects, which, according to Berwing, inhibits concentration on the pressing challenges of our time. Around 20 percent of all implementation projects fail before go-live, but even in completed projects, only 25 projects of the set goals are achieved, the budget is exceeded by 42 percent and the planned time by 32 percent. In this area of tension between suppliers and users, the center has for many years played a mediating and, above all, neutral role, emphasizes Berwing. The experience gained in this way shows that transparent communication and honesty in the project are decisive success factors for the success of projects. Berwing’s presentation already highlighted the great importance of change management for the success of software projects. This point was also emphasized by all the speakers in the “Transformation: Paving the way to a digitized company” session. Establishing a culture of innovation in the company is essential for the success of the project. In addition, all speakers recommended providing the process participants with sufficient free resources so that they – and above all the key users – can master the complex requirements in addition to their dayto-day business.
