FIR NEWS 18 / UdZ 01.24 10 Jahre Johannes-Rau-Forschungsgemeinschaft Am 8. April 2024 fand mit 300 Gästen die Jubiläumsfeier „10 Jahre Johannes-Rau-Forschungsgemeinschaft“ in Düsseldorf statt; das FIR war als eines der Mitgliedsinstitut mit dabei. Vor Ort hatten die Gäste die Gelegenheit, alle Institute und einen Teil ihrer Projekte kennenzulernen. Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Boos, Tobias Schröer, Antoine Gaillard und weitere Kolleg:innen stellten das FIR und das Projekt ‚DiCES‘ (dices.fir.de) vor und nutzten die Chance, mit Gästen ins Gespräch zu kommen. Ein Nachmittag voller Innovationen und Begegnungen liegt hinter uns und wir sind dankbar, Teil dieses besonderen Netzwerks zu sein. The guests had the opportunity to get to know all the institutes and some of their projects. Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Boos, Antoine Gaillard and other colleagues presented the FIR and the 'DiCES' (dices.fir.de/en) project and took the opportunity to talk to guests. An afternoon full of innovation and encounters lies behind us and we are grateful to be part of this special network. Projekt ‚EDIH Rheinland‘ Am 14. März 2024 war unser Kollege Justus Benning als Speaker zu Gast beim Aachen Data & AI Meetup des digitalHUB Aachen e. V.. Im Rahmen des Projekts ‚EDIH Rheinland‘ hat er seinen spannenden Vortrag zum Thema „Open Source LLMs: Chancen für KMUs und Leitfaden für Fine-Tuning, Hosting und Betrieb“ gehalten. Der EDIH Rheinland richtet sich im Schwerpunkt an kleine und mittlere Unternehmen, Startups und Spin-offs. Einrichtungen des öffentlichen Sektors sind ebenfalls angesprochen. Die geografische Lage im Dreiländereck Deutschland-Belgien-Niederlande bietet vielfältige Möglichkeiten zur Vernetzung und Kooperation über die Landesgrenzen hinaus. Die Teilnehmer:innen lernten basierend auf seinem und dem Vortrag von Thomas Gerstmann, Initiative Aachen Data & AI Meetup, wie sie Open Source Large Language Models (LLMs) datenschutzkonform und effizient auf eigenen Servern oder Computern einsetzen können. » edih-rheinland.eu Project ‘EDIH Rheinland‘ On March 14th, 2024, our colleague Justus Benning was a guest speaker at the Aachen Data & AI Meetup organised by digitalHUB Aachen e. V.. As part of the 'EDIH Rheinland' project, he gave an exciting presentation on the topic of "Open source LLMs: opportunities for SMEs and guidelines for fine-tuning, hosting and operation". The EDIH Rheinland is primarily aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises, start-ups and spin-offs. Public sector organisations are also addressed. The geographical location in the border triangle of Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands offers a wide range of opportunities for networking and cooperation across national borders. Based on his presentation and that of Thomas Gerstmann, Initiative Aachen Data & AI Meetup, the participants learnt how they can use open source large language models (LLMs) efficiently and in compliance with data protection regulations on their own servers or computers.
